S.A.L.T. Foundation Mission:

Supporting the Call to Servant-Leadership

The Four Characteristics of Servant-Leaders

4 Dimensions of Servant Leadership

Definition of a Servant-Leader

The S.A.L.T. Foundation defines authentic, Christ-centered Servant-Leadership as the consistent demonstration of Four Guiding Principles: 1) Compassion, 2) Commitment, 3) Confidence and 4) Competence.

These "4 C's" of Servant-Leadership fully encompass the core characteristics of authentic servant leaders as exemplified in Galatians 5:22-23.

"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such there is no law."

Galatians 5:22-23 (NASB)

The S.A.L.T. Foundation Mission and Servant-Leader Certification Process has been designed to illuminate, enhance and reinforce these characteristics in qualified program candidates.

Mission Statement

The Mission of the S.A.L.T. Foundation is to Facilitate the Establishment of God's Kingdom on Earth by Providing Willing Individuals with Effective Training, Education, Guidance and Resources they can use to Serve Others and Transform Darkness into Light in all Areas of Life.

Leadership in the World System

The focus of leadership in the World System, is the exercise of power leading to the accumulation of control, riches, status and influence. There is nothing inherently wrong with these things, but leadership according to the World System is rooted in fulfilling the desires of the "self", and not in fulfilling the divine mandate to serve God through man, in love.

Rooted in the Human Ego

The World System is the product of the flawed, human "carnal mind" or "ego." In this system, there is no recognition of a "servant-leader;" there are only leaders who lead, servants who serve and everyone else. Leadership in this world is often defined by an individual or a small group exercising power over a larger body of people to achieve ends that mostly benefit the individual leader and its cabal of cronies.

This does not mean these leaders who govern by "World System" principles are ineffective in getting things done-we simply wish to point out that leadership from a worldly perspective emerges from an individual's desire to influence the world for selfish reasons, not not necessarily in service to the Will of God and the authentic benefit of others.

In I John 2:15-17, scripture describes the three key aspects of the "World System:"

  1. LUST OF THE FLESH: Preoccupation with Physical Pleasure (Social)
  2. LUST OF THE EYES: Single-minded Pursuit of Material Wealth (Economics)
  3. PRIDE OF LIFE: Obsession with, and Pursuit of Power & Status (Politics)

The World System is temporal, and is composed of all of the deeply flawed, man-made ideologies governing our earthly lives and is characterized by the unbridled seeking after things such as money, sex, power, etc. Find below a visual aid illustrating the structure of the "World System."

The World System

"Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

For all that is in the world - the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life - is not of the Father but of this world.

And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever."

I John 2:15-17

Servant-Leadership in God's Kingdom

In the book of Matthew Jesus refers to God's Kingdom on earth as the "Kingdom of Heaven." It is the very same Kingdom we are all called to help establish. Faith, Stewardship and Service are God's three-fold plan for citizens of the Kingdom of Heaven:

Kingdom of Heaven
  1. FAITH: Faith is simply trusting God to provide for all your wants and needs. Faith is "knowing" and acting "as if" until circumstances manifest desired changes & answers to prayer.
  2. STEWARDSHIP: Taking care of all the "things" God has given you possession of, or responsibility for.
  3. SERVICE: Using your God-given talents, skills, abilities, resources (assets) with honesty, integrity and compassion to benefit others.
Unlike the World System, leadership in the Kingdom of Heaven is not defined by worldly power, special status or wealth. Instead, it is defined by the level of commitment one has made to serve God- spirit, mind and body, by helping others.
Kingdom of Heaven

"Finally brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy - meditate on these things.

The things which you learned and received and heard and say in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you."

Philippians 4:8-9

The Nine Dimensions of Human Awareness

Every human being lives simultaneously in Nine Dimensions of Awareness. These 9-dimensions -or attributes - of awareness, are grouped into three main levels of consciousness: 1) Spirit, 2) Mind and 3) Body. Awareness implies our inate ability to perceive in each of these areas, but consciousness implies our understanding of those perceptions and our deliberate choices with respect to each of the nine attributes of awareness. Each of the nine attributes also has two opposing aspects - Darkness and Light - balanced by our free-will ability to CHOOSE.

Our Heavenly Father has imbued all human beings with the awesome and powerful gift of free-will. The purpose of this free-will is to give each and every one of us the opportunity to voluntarily choose to align our consciously and willfully align our nine attributes of Awareness with the Will of the Father. Will we fall prey to the deceptions and seductions of the World System and follow the path of Darkness, or will we align our will with the righteous and eternal Will of God leading to Light and Life as citizens of God's Kingdom on Earth?

The Essence of Your Life's Purpose is CHOICE

At it's core, Servant-Leadership is simply the daily act of choosing the path of LIGHT and rejecting the path of DARKNESS. Every circumstances and experience of your life will fall squarely into one of these two realms of CHOICE. Your confusion and inability to consistently make wise choices is the result of your will being out of alignment with God's Will, and your lack of clarity about who you are and why you are here. SALT Certification affirmatively rectifies this problem by making clear the two paths so you can consistently make choices that lead to Light and Life.

S.A.L.T. Certification Sets You on the Path of Light

The Mission of the SALT Foundation Certification Program is to give members clarity on the differences between LIGHT and DARKNESS. Properly equipped with this new level of discernment, program graduates who have made the decision to walk in the light as servant-leaders can consistently make wise, light and life affirming choices in all areas their lives.

As you can see from the CHOICE diagram on the left, everything in your experience of life flows from your sense of Purpose. Purpose implies a Creator which we identify as God the Father of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Servant-Leaders Choose the Path of Light

If you believe that God the Father Created you for a Purpose you are on the path to walking in the Light.

Knowledge that God created you for a purpose is experienced as his Love for you. This Love inspires Hope; Hope is the belief that the Creator made you for a reason, and loves you and will provide what you need to fulfill that Purpose. That Hope fuels Faith in your God-given Purpose, leading to an internal sense of confidence that He has your best interests at heart and results in an awareness of affirmative expectation which you experience as Hope.

Caring for Others

This Hope gives you confidence to trust God's intentions for you leading to an attitude of Faith. Faith is the actual substance (knowledge+confidence) of your Hope in God's care for you, and is the evidence of His as yet unmanifest promises to you. Since you have Faith that your Heavenly Father is looking out for you, you are then free to fulfill your divine mandate to serve others and not just pursue your own selfish needs. Because you are focused on helping others, your Thoughts align with Love, leading to the experience of Positive emotions. This godly thinking and healthy emotional condition brings Harmony since you are not competing (in conflict) with others for perceived scarce or limited resources. You instead rely on God's infinite abundance and creative power to provide your every need. The spiritual foundation of love, hope, and faith leads to harmonious and productive relationships and physical & emotional health and Wellness characterized by Pleasant feelings in your body and a full and productive Life experience.

The Common Trap of Darkness

The terrible truth is that most people live in Darkness - even many professing Christians. And just like the path of LIGHT, the path of DARKNESS also begins with your PURPOSE or rather your lack of it. If you do not believe that God exists, or do not believe He really Loves you specifically and created you for a unique and special purpose, you will feel Fear-ful and disconnected. This Fear causes you to adopt an insecure, inwardly focused, protective value system which views all others as actual or potential threats. This insecure condition results in Doubt that you will be able to survive and thrive. This Doubt and deliberate, self-imposed disconnect from divine Providence leads to a condition of Worry and insecurity. You become focused on Self-preservation at all costs (its either them or you!). Since your focus is on your Self, and your things, your thoughts and relationships are characterized by Conflict and tension in the form of competitiveness, selfishness and greed.

Your deep rooted fear and self-imposed experience of being cut-off from divine providence leaves you empty and you view the universe as a scary place of limited, scarce resources. Since you view the universe as hostile and limited, you are naturally in conflict with everyone else and Compete with them for your share of what you perceive as the finite, universal "pie." Since you rely on the limited energy you produce or "steal" from others through deception, seduction and manipulation, you will experience Negative emotions, increasing your vulnerability to "Dis-ease" and the inevitable resulting feeling of Pain -This is the causal path of the descent into Darkness, leading to spiritual stagnation and Death of the soul.

In closing, the core Mission of the S.A.L.T. Foundation is to establish a clear and practical path out of Darkness and into the Light for individuals laboring in all areas and dimensions of public and private life through Authentic Servant-Leadership. We believe this principle is the practical essence of what it means to establish God's Kingdom on Earth.
